"I can't imagine how it will end!"

Santa Fe, NM — After seeing the Season 6 Finale of the critical and ratings smash HBO hit Game of Thrones, George R.R. Martin just can’t wait to see how the series will end.

“What a cliffhanger!  What could possibly happen next?  I tell you what, I will definitely be waiting with baited breath just like the rest of the world to see what happens next on this amazing show!”

Martin, the author of the books HBO used as the basis for the show, apparently abandoned writing for the epic fantasy saga long ago.  Rumor has it that he and Patrick Rothfuss spend long evenings drinking, burning royalty checks, and thinking of new ways to torment their fan bases by placing a few token paragraphs on their blogs and promising that they are spending a lot of time writing.  They then laugh heartily and go back composing their latest Facebook posts.

Martin’s ravenous readership has clamored for the sixth book in the series, The Winds of Winter, for five years at this point.  The gap has been long enough for an entire class of students to almost finish college.

This YouTube video by the duo Paul & Storm expresses the impatience of the fan base for more material, to which the author replied, with the help of fellow author and provocateur Neil Gaiman, by smashing the guitar of the daring duo at a Comic-Con.

Brandon Sanderson, a fellow fantasy author, stands in stark contrast.  Not only has he completed the epic Robert Jordan series The Wheel of Time but he has authored seminal series in his own right.  From Mistborn to the first two books in a planned 10-book series called The Stormlight Archive, to authoring a dozen other books, Sanderson has been a veritable writing machine.  In fact, while you read this article he wrote two books.
